The First Step

Know what you're buying

Adamas Diamonds is proud to have been selected to offer your Employee Diamond Benefit. This selection reflects the high value we place on the transparent and personal way we conduct our business.

Choosing the perfect diamond can be a daunting experience, there is so much information and mis-information around. Knowing our diamonds come through ethically mined and certified processes means you can have peace of mind knowing you are selecting from a genuine source.

The only thing left to worry about, is choosing from our extensive collection. Should you wish to compare apples with apples, or carats with carats, there are a few things you need to know, our team of qualified gemmologists are here to help via phone, email or personal consultation.

To assist you in your search we have compiled a list of the most important factors when buying a diamond.

Does the diamond carry an HRD or GIA certificate?

There are other laboratories with similar sounding names, so be careful when you are checking these certificates. The HRD (Hoge Raad voor Daimant or ‘Diamond High Council’ representing the Antwerp Diamond Centre) and the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) are the most widely regarded and recognised diamond-grading laboratories in the world. Be cautious of any company offering other types of certificates.

Is the HRD or GIA certificate genuine?

It is not uncommon to find confident tricksters who will alter or replicate the appearance of international diamond grading reports. There are many cases world wide where diamond reports have been copied and supplied with diamonds that do not match. Our team are able to help you decipher any diamond report and ensure that the diamond you have selected belongs to the diamond grading report supplied.

Has every category of your certificate been completed?

Some diamond grading laboratories leave out some sections of their certificate and this absence of information can be used to inadvertently provide a false impression of the value of the stone you are purchasing. Here is a checklist of the minimum qualities that should be included on any grading certificate in order to ensure you receive the quality of diamond you are paying for:

  • Description
  • Shape and Cut
  • Weight
  • Measurements
  • Clarity Grade
  • Colour Grade
  • Fluorescence
  • Finish
  • Polish & Symmetry
  • Proportions
  • Table Diameter
  • Crown Height
  • Pavilion Depth
  • Girdle Thickness
  • Culet Size

While the order of those qualities may vary slightly amongst the major international laboratories, all of them should be detailed on your certificate.

Are you being offered a discount or a sale special?

Adamas Diamonds has a strictly audited pricing structure in place to ensure true wholesale prices are offered to all employees. This reflects a saving for employees of 20 – 50% off market retail prices. Premium Quality diamonds are priced accordingly. Should you find a diamond seemingly cheaper than one we have available we would welcome the opportunity to compare your options for you.

You might be surprised to find there are many reasons why diamonds vary in price. Read here for information on comparing diamonds.
